If you would like to point a domain name that you have to some other domain name or subdomain, one way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain address being redirected loses all its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain it is forwarded to. That way, if you use a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be redirected to the Internet site that you have created, but it will also appear in the web browser address bar at all times. Other possible uses of a CNAME record are to point all the targeted traffic from different subdomains to their main Internet domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting provider by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain because this kind of a record set up for the main domain address renders it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

In case you have a cloud hosting plan through our company and you would like to create a CNAME record, it will take you a few clicks to get it done. You can access the DNS records for all domain addresses and subdomains hosted within your account through the Hepsia CP that comes with every single plan and adding a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, selecting the type, which is CNAME in this case, typing the actual record value and saving the modification. If you've never added this sort of record before, we have a Help section with a detailed video tutorial that you can watch, or you can simply contact us and we will assist you with this task. If you have set up an Internet site through another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you want to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different company, for instance Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a couple of clicks within your CP.
